Why friends and wine are good for your soul

If you adore wine, you probably also love sharing it with the people you love. Now, there’s even more reason to crack open a bottle together. Regular catch-ups with friends are one of the best things for your soul – or, in Spanish – la alma. After a long day or week, talking and laughing with your favourite people can be just what the doctor ordered. Here’s why.

You’ll slow down and enjoy the simple moments

Between busy work and life commitments, it can be tough finding time to just take a breath and relax. Whether it’s one-on-one or a group dinner, getting together with your closest friends is a great way to slow down, and can be hugely beneficial to your overall wellbeing.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Start by inviting your friends over and throwing together simple tapas, like a delicious Spanish potato omelette or platter with ham, cheese, chorizo and bread. Turn up your favourite playlist, pour everyone a glass of Campo Viejo and you’ll soon lose track of time. Your shoulders will loosen, your worries will float away and you’ll forget all about that thing you had to tick off your to-do list.

You won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face

Since humans are social animals, it’s no surprise spending time with others has such a positive effect on how we feel. When our friendships are strong, so are we. We’re often healthier and happier, because our friends provide us with the single most important buffer against mental and physical illness.

Get together with your friends and there’s bound to be laughter and stories. It’s in these moments when strangers become friends and friends become family. That’s why, any way you look at it, friends and happiness go hand in hand.

You can try new things together

Catching up with friends is a great excuse to experiment and try new things, like a new recipe, hobby or even a different variety of wine.

Usually partial to a robust red, but your friend prefers a fruity white? Perhaps neither of you have tasted Cava Brut or Rosé before? Now’s your opportunity. Have fun with your wine selection and you may even unearth a new favourite – made all the more special by discovering it with your friends.

Whether you’re having an intimate dinner at your place or attending a festive party, with the right people and a few bottles of wine (Campo Viejo, of course), any event can turn into a great memory. After all, good friends + good wine = great times. Salud!
